Meditation
Where you are in a state of unbiasedly observing / witnessing, taking a step back from you and your life, viewing life from a birds eye view. Your body is relaxed, accepting, comfortable, You are open to receiving and in a state of universal trust.
Physically your sympathetic nervous system is inactive and your parasympathetic nervous system is activated.
Parasympathetic Nervous System
The parasympathetic nervous system (PNS) is one branch of the autonomic nervous system that helps the body support functions associated with rest, digestion, recovery, and conservation of energy. It generally slows heart rate, supports digestive activity, and promotes physiological processes involved in restoration and maintenance. It is often described as the “rest-and-digest” system, although this phrase is an oversimplification because parasympathetic activity is involved in a broader range of bodily functions and can coexist with states of alertness and engagement.
Surrender
Being in a state of universal trust, patience, calm, and physical and mental relaxation, with no need to force, push, make something happen, figure things out, or achieve. It is sitting back and listening to yourself, following your inner guidance, and allowing life or the universe to give you what you want or need on a silver platter.
Surrender means unbiasedly observing and witnessing rather than trying to create or control. It is the state behind the phrase, “There is much to get done, but nothing to do.” This does not mean being inactive or doing nothing. Rather, you are dancing with life or the universe, allowing yourself to trust your inner prompts and respond to what arises.
Physically, your nervous system is regulated.
Example: You may think you should apply to as many jobs as possible, but when you consider doing so, your body feels exhausted and overwhelmed. Instead, you feel drawn to apply to only one or two positions that genuinely light you up and to attend an event that sounds fun. At the event, you meet someone who works at the place you were most excited about. You hit it off, and they facilitate a job interview and help you get the job.
Sympathetic Nervous System
The sympathetic nervous system (SNS) is one branch of the autonomic nervous system that helps the body respond to demands, challenges, or perceived threats. It increases physiological activation by, among other things, increasing heart rate, directing blood flow toward muscles, and making energy more readily available. It is commonly associated with the “fight-or-flight” response, although sympathetic activation also occurs during non-threatening activities such as exercise, excitement, and focused effort.
Trust
Being in a state of relaxation, calm, and patience, without forcing, pushing, or feeling pressure to make something happen, figure something out, or achieve a particular outcome. It is a state in which you can receive and listen to your inner guidance, intuition, instincts, and gut feelings.
You are breathing normally and carrying a sense that “everything is going to turn out for the best.” Even if something challenging happens, you trust that you will be able to rise to the occasion, navigate it, and ultimately emerge empowered—leaving you in a better state and a better place in your life.
